Worldfoods aims to provide unique taste experiences to the public on behalf of suppliers of food and drink products from around the world, with a special focus on the exotic flavours of the tropics including Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.
For the past decade, expressed interest in exotic foods has seen a steady growth in the UK. But in the last three years, according to food experts, Caribbean cuisine in particular has quadrupled in its popularity and appeal to the UK masses.
In response to this WorldFoods in June 2009 organised its first ever Caribbean Cuisine Tour, a 23 day London road show covering Asda and Tesco supermarkets. This novel initiative would create a unique platform to promote the exotic flavours from the region. The 23 sampling days were a huge success in addition WorldFoods launched its first edition of a 'Guide to Caribbean Cuisine'. A free publication handed out to shoppers whilst they sampled food and drink products throughout the tour.
On 28th May 2010, WorldFoods took to the road for a second time with an unprecedented 36 day Caribbean food and drink road show across major supermarkets, including Sainsbury's, MORRISONS, Asda, Tesco and a number of independent stores, both in London and Birmingham.
During the tour 50,000 'Tastes of the Caribbean' recipe guide publications were distributed throughout the 36 sampling days. This guide aimed to create practical awareness of how people can replicate the "colorful West Indian style" cooking at home using ingredients they can easily find in their supermarkets.
Worldfoods plans to replicate the above model for African and Asian cuisine in the near future.
